Be the cause of a smile :)

You might not know how important your hair is until you face losing it. And if you have cancer and are about to undergo chemotherapy, the chance of hair loss is very high. Both men and women report hair loss as one of the side effects they fear most after being diagnosed with cancer. Chemotherapy drugs are powerful medications that attack rapidly growing cancer cells. Unfortunately, these drugs also attack other rapidly growing cells in your body — including those in your hair roots.

Our hair is a unique part of our identity. Suddenly losing it as a result of cancer treatment can be distressing for everyone. Usually, women and kids find it more distressing than men. Losing hair while undergoing cancer treatments affects their self-confidence and is the major cause for hesitation towards treatment at the right time. While struggling to meet the hospital expenses, these patients may not have the financial stability to afford a wig.  To prevent this, there are many organisations which provide wigs to boost the confidence of women fighting cancer. There are so many hair donations and wig donation drive that aims to encourage women to avail cancer treatment across India.

When people hear about hair donation, all that comes into their mind is just shaving off their entire hair. This notion is to be changed and hair donation doesn't mean that you have to shave off the entire hair. A particular length of hair can also be donated. Usually, women are highly beauty conscious and they often trim their hair to catch up with the current trends. Instead of just trimming your hair at a Salon and putting it to the bin, you can donate your hair.

I too decided to donate my hair

It was back in 2018 that I decided to donate my hair for cancer patients. Ever since then, I kept on enquiring about hair donation campaigns. Unfortunately, I could not find a donation drive in my location. It was in the year 2019, I heard about the "Gift hair Gift Confidence" campaign by "The Cherian Foundation, Chennai". They conduct hair donation campaigns and wig donation drive regularly. Having a busy schedule every day I could not find time to go for such campaigns instead, I contacted them over the phone and enquired. They were very helpful and guided through the procedures. The procedures were as follows:
  • Wash your hair thoroughly and dry it.
  • Secure hair with a rubber band.
  • Ensure your hair is longer than 10 inches. Measure it using a ruler and secure it with a rubber band.
  • Cut the hair. Make sure you have secured both the ends using a rubber band.
  • Wrap the hair in a newspaper.
  • Place it in a clean zip lock bag and courier it.
You can find more details about it on their website: www.cherianfoundation.org

Soon after the courier was delivered, I received a digital certificate.
There are many such organisations conducting hair donation campaigns. You can search on the internet and choose one according to your convenience.

After Hair donation

I felt very happy to be the cause of a smile. As the campaign suggests, I gifted confidence to an anonymous person by gifting hair. I also encouraged many of my friends to be a part of the campaign.
What surprised me the most was the mixed opinions that I received. There were people who appreciated me while they were people who blamed me for having trimmed 15 inches of my hair. I ignored the blames and was happy with my new look.

An anonymous person somewhere around the globe smiles because of me and I truly experience the rejoice of it.

Love & Life

''Love'' , we are all familiar with the word love. Often the term love goes undefined because people say that Love cannot be defined, it can only be expressed! Well, I believe that love has got its own definition but many of us fail to explore it. We find many people in love around us. Many a time, in a conservative society, the definition of love remains as a feeling between two individuals. Fortunately, when you come out of a conservative society, you would realise that you are free to love anything around you. You can love your pet, you can love flowers, you can love nature, you can love your family, you can love animals and birds etc....The ability to love is a human quality which we are all blessed with.  We've all got that instinct in us but we fail to recognise it due to unseen reasons.  The need to explore love has immense importance in the contemporary world since there's a larger section of society falling into the web of depression. When you love a pe...
